1951年東京生まれ。東京藝術大学附属音楽高等学校を経て1974年東京藝術大学を卒業。1972年に日本音楽コンクール入選。1983年には第1回国際ブラームス・コンクールにおいてトリオ部門優勝および特別賞受賞。
モーツァルトのクラリネット協奏曲の演奏がカラヤンに認められ、1974年ベルリンのカラヤン・アカデミーに留学、カール・ライスターに師事。ベルリン・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団のエキストラ要員としてベルリン・フィル定期公演、ザルツブルク音楽祭に参加。1975年ベルリン交響楽団入団。1978年北西ドイツ・フィルハーモニーのソロ・クラリネット奏者として移籍。1980年ベルリン交響楽団のソロ・クラリネット奏者として再入団。1995年帰国、2011年3月まで読売日本交響楽団首席クラリネット奏者。
これまでに、ヘルベルト・フォン・カラヤン、クラウディオ・アバド、サイモン・ラトル、小澤征爾、ユーリ・テミルカーノフ、スタニスラフ・スクロヴァチェフスキ、マンフレート・ホーネック他、世界的著名指揮者と共演。
室内楽の分野では、ベルリン・ブランディス弦楽四重奏団、モザイク・カルテット、トッパンホール アンサンブルなどとの共演を始め、1950年以降の作品を中心に演奏するアンサンブル「work in progress」のメンバーとして現代音楽シリーズにも出演。また、サイトウ・キネン・オーケストラや水戸室内管弦楽団、草津夏期国際音楽アカデミー＆フェスティヴァルにも参加。オーケストラ・メンバーとしてだけではなく、ソリスト、室内楽奏者、マスタークラスなどでも活躍している。
2012年、ベルリンで行われた、カラヤン・アカデミー40周年記念コンサートにも招かれ、サイモン・ラトルの下、ブルックナーの第8交響曲を演奏。主に室内楽の作品を中心に、クラシック・スタジオ・ベルリン、TDK、DENON、カメラータ・トウキョウ、アートユニオンの各レーベルよりCDをリリース。
現在、東京音楽大学教授、桐朋学園大学、日本大学芸術学部講師として後進の指導にあたる。

Shinohe was born in 1951 and attended the Senior High School of Music affiliated with the Tokyo University of the Arts Faculty of Music. He graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts 1974. In 1972, Shinohe was accepted to the Music Competition of Japan, and in 1983 he took first place in the Clarinet Trio Division at the first International Brahms Competition and received a special award.
Shinohe’s performance of Mozart’s clarinet concerto won the acceptance of Karajan, and he enrolled at Karajan Academy and studied under Karl Leister. He began performing regularly with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra as an extra member and participated in the Salzburg Festival. In 1975 he joined the Berlin Symphony Orchestra before taking a position with the North West German Philharmonic Orchestra as solo clarinetist in 1978. Two years later, he rejoined the Berlin Symphony Orchestra as solo clarinetist. A year after returning to Japan 1994, Shinohe took a position as lead clarinetist at Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, until March 2011.
Up to now, Shinohe has performed with many world famous conductors, including Herbert von Karajan, Claudio Abbado, Sir Simon Rattle, Seiji Ozawa, Yuri Temirkanov, Stanisław Skrowaczewski and Manfred Honeck.
In the field of chamber music, he co-performed with Brandis Quartet Berlin, Quatuor Mosaïques, and Toppan Hall Ensemble as well as making appearances in a modern music series as a member of the ensemble “work in progress,” which primarily performs pieces composed in 1950 and later. Also performed in Saito Kinen Orchestra, Mito Chamber Orchestra and participated in Kusatsu International Summer Music Academy & Festival. He is active not only as an orchestra member but also as a chamber music performer, soloist and master class instructor.
In 2012, invited to the 40th anniversary concert for Karajan Academy in Berlin, and performed Bruckner’s Symphony No. 8 conducted by Sir Simon Rattle. He has released several CDs, primarily of chamber music pieces, on Classic Studio Berlin, TDK, DENON, Camerata Tokyo and Art Union.
Currently teaching younger people as a professor at Tokyo University of the Arts, Toho Gakuen School of Music, and lecturer at Nihon University College of Art.
