井口愛子氏に師事。桐朋学園高校卒業の年に毎日音楽コンクール第一位受賞。エッセン音楽院卒業。クラウス・ヘルヴィッヒ、ステファン・アスケナーゼらに師事。
1972年、エリザベート王妃国際音楽コンクールに入賞。その後、ヨーロッパ各地で音楽祭、リサイタルなど活発な演奏活動を展開。ロンドンデビューの際には、辛口批評で知られる「ロンドンタイムズ」に「豊かな音楽性、冴えたテクニック、強い精神力、そして明晰な頭脳による力強い演奏」と絶賛された。
数多くの著名な指揮者と共演し、その中には、ズービン・メータ、小澤征爾、ラファエル・フリューベック・デ・ブルゴス、ハインツ・レーグナー、マキシム・ショスタコーヴィチらがいる。また、ソロ・リサイタルのほか、クリーヴランド弦楽四重奏団、ウィーン・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団のメンバーらと室内楽で共演し、日本国内外の著名なオーケストラとも共演している。1988年、『モーツァルト：ピアノ協奏曲の夕べ』によって芸術祭賞を受賞。レパートリーは幅広く、ベートーヴェンをはじめとする古典派から、プロコフィエフ、ラヴェル、プーランクなどのほか、現代作品の演奏にも積極的に取り組んでいる。
教育活動にも積極的に取り組み、長く日本音楽コンクールの審査員を務め、また、2011年まで京都市立芸術大学にて教授として後進の指導にあたった。
レコーディング活動においては、RCAでモーツァルト、ベートーヴェン、ショパン、スクリャービンなど20枚以上を録音。また、フォンテックよりベートーヴェンのソナタ集、カメラータより野田暉行、別宮貞雄の協奏曲をリリース。fine N&Fよりベートーヴェンの第4番とグリーグの協奏曲（共演：モスクワ放送交響楽団）、J.S.バッハの作品をリリース。2008年7月には、念願のシューベルトの作品を集めたCD『神谷郁代プレイズ・シューベルト』（fine N&F）をリリース。この録音が「第21回ミュージックペンクラブ音楽賞」受賞。
2012年、ウィーン楽友協会の協力のもと、世界初録音となる『チェルニー：48の前奏曲とフーガ』をカメラータに録音し、翌2013年にリリース。 |

Acclaimed as “a master of her generation”, Ikuyo Kamiya is one of the most prominent pianists in Japan. After graduating from the Toho Gakuen Music Conservatory in Tokyo, she won first prize at the Japan Music Competition in 1964, and was selected by the competition organizers as a student delegate to attend the Essen National Academy in Germany. This was where she studied with Klaus Hellwig and Stefan Askenaze.
After winning an award at the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition in 1972, she was invited to perform in various festivals and recitals throughout Belgium, which included performances with the Brussels National Orchestra, and the Antwerp Orchestra. The critic’s review of her London debut commented her music as “abundant in musicality, and powerful presentation, which is the result of her thorough analysis.” Her string of collaborations included well-known conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa, Fruhbeck de Burgos, Heinz Rogner, Maxim Shostakovich and many others. In addition to her solo recitals, she has also given chamber music performances with the Cleveland Quartet, members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and prominent orchestras in both Japan and abroad. In 1988, she received the prestigious “Arts Festival Award of Japan”.
She served as a jury member for the Japan Music Competition for many years. Also she was a professor at the Kyoto City University of Arts until 2011.
Widely available throughout Europe, is her recording of Beethoven’s major sonatas, “Moonlight” and “Appasionata” on the RCA label. Her “Appationata” made records sales of more than 20,000 in the United States. In addition, she has also made an abundant number of other recordings, including more than 20 CD releases all under the RCA label, with repertoire ranging from classical to modern pieces, such as her popular Chopin series, Beethoven, Mozart, Schumann, Mussorgsky, and Satie. In 1997 she released yet another CD, Beethoven: Piano Sonata Nos. 26, 30 & 31 on the Fontec label.
In 2001, she released her 35th debut anniversary CD of Beethoven No.4 piano Concerto, and Grieg Piano Concerto, a performance with the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio.
In 2012, she did the world’s first recording of Carl Czerny’s 48 Preludes and Fugues with the cooperation of Wiener Musikverein, and the CD is released in 2013 by Camerata Tokyo. |
