1923年7月14日、東京に生まれる。1944年、東京音楽学校（現・東京藝術大学音楽学部）声楽科を卒業し、音楽家としてのキャリアを開始。1953年より、ローマの聖チェチーリア音楽院、シエナのキジアーナ音楽院で学び、ヨーロッパ各地の劇場へ出演。中でもプッチーニ『蝶々夫人』の演奏回数は百回を超える。1957年、ザルツブルクのモーツァルテウム音楽院で、モーツァルトの研究を始め、その後フーゴ・ヴォルフ以後の後期ロマン派のリートから無調、12音音楽の探究へ進む。1960年以後、ローマに定住。作曲家ドメニコ・グアッチェロとの出会いを契機に、現代音楽演奏へと身を捧げる決意をする。以来、フランコ・エヴァンジェリスティ、ジャチント・シェルシといった前衛作曲家との協力関係の下、捧げられた作品は百を超え、それらは欧州の主要な音楽祭、コンサート、ラジオ、テレビ放送等で演奏されている。特にシェルシとの協力関係は緊密で、“Hô”（1960）、“Taiagarù”（1962）、“Khoom”（1962）、“Three Latin Prayers”（1970）、“Pranam I”（1972）、“Sauh I–IV”（1973）、そして“Canti del Capricorno（山羊座の歌）”（1962–72）といった作品が平山のために作曲された。
2018年4月1日、ローマにて逝去。享年94歳。 |

Born in Tokyo on 14 July 1923. Graduated from Tokyo University of Music (currently Tokyo University of the Arts), Department of Vocal Music in 1944, and embarked on her long career as a musician. In 1953 she moved to Italy to study at Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena. Michiko also performed at various theatres in Europe. Inter alia, the number of her performances in Puccini’s “Madame Butterfly” amounts to more than one hundred. She lived in Rome since 1960. Michiko started her research on Mozart at “Mozarteum” in Salzburg in 1957. After that she extended the subject of her reseach to Lied of late-romanticism typified by the music of Hugo Wolf, and then to atonality and twelve-tone music. After her encounter with the composer Domenico Guàccero, Michiko decided to devote herself to modern music performance. She worked out close collaboration with many avant-garde composers such as Franco Evangelisti and Giacinto Scelsi. Ever since more than one hundred pieces of music were dedicated to her and have been performed at significant music festivals, concerts, and on radio and television broadcast all over the world. Michiko established a special band of mutual admiration and friendship with Scelsi, who composed many pieces for her including “Hô” (1960), “Taiagarù” (1962), “Khoom” (1962), “Three Latin Prayers” (1970), “Pranam I” (1972), “Sauh I–IV” (1973), and “Canti del Capricorno” (1962–72).
